Single Channel Vehicle Detection
The BEA MATRIX-S220 controls one inductive loop installed beneath the road surface. When a vehicle enters the detection area, the metallic mass changes the loop inductance and the detector provides the programmed relay output to the connected gate, parking barrier or access control system.
Direct 220–240V AC Power Supply
A major advantage of the MATRIX-S220 is its 220–240V AC power supply. Where a suitable mains supply is available, the S220 can be powered directly without requiring the 12–24V supply used by the MATRIX-S12-24 version.
Automatic Loop Tuning
The MATRIX-S220 automatically tunes itself to the connected inductive loop. Automatic tuning simplifies commissioning and helps maintain stable vehicle detection when the loop has been correctly designed and installed.
Adjustable Vehicle Detection Sensitivity
Sensitivity can be adjusted between approximately 0.005% and 0.5% ΔL/L. This allows the detector to be configured according to loop dimensions, installation conditions and the types of vehicles that need to be detected.
4 Frequency Adjustments
The single-channel MATRIX-S series provides 4 frequency adjustments. Selecting an appropriate frequency can help reduce interference when multiple inductive loops are installed close to one another.
Presence & Pulse Detection Modes
The BEA MATRIX-S220 supports both presence and pulse detection. Presence mode can maintain the output while a vehicle remains over the loop, while pulse mode provides a short output signal for compatible gate, barrier or traffic-control functions.
Pulse duration can be configured for 100 ms or 500 ms, while presence time can be configured from approximately 1 minute to infinite.
25 ms Fast Reaction Time
With a specified reaction time of approximately 25 milliseconds, the MATRIX-S220 provides fast vehicle detection for automatic parking barriers, gates and industrial entrance systems.
BEA MATRIX-S220 for Parking Barriers
The MATRIX-S220 is ideal for compatible automatic parking barriers and boom gates. Depending on the barrier controller and wiring configuration, the detector can provide vehicle presence, opening or safety signals.
For applications requiring two independent vehicle loops, use the dual-channel MATRIX-D220 instead.
BEA Loop Detector for Automatic Gates
The MATRIX-S220 can also be integrated with compatible automatic sliding and swing gate systems. The relay output can be connected to an appropriate gate-controller input for vehicle detection or activation.

Choosing the Correct BEA MATRIX Detector
Select the MATRIX version according to the number of inductive loops and available power supply. For one loop and a 220–240V AC supply, choose the MATRIX-S220. For two loops using the same mains supply, choose the MATRIX-D220.
The loop dimensions, number of turns, feeder cable arrangement, road construction and sensitivity settings should also be configured according to the vehicle detection application.
