21 Metre Reflective Gate Photocell

The SOMMER 5228 provides a maximum detection range of up to 21 metres, making it suitable for wide automatic gate entrances, parking barrier lanes and other automation applications where a long photocell beam is required.

The actual usable distance depends on correct sensor and reflector alignment, installation conditions and the surrounding environment.

Power Required on One Side Only

One of the main advantages of the SOMMER reflective photocell is that electrical power is required on only one side of the entrance.

The powered photocell sends the light beam toward the reflector installed on the opposite side. The reflector returns the beam to the sensor. This eliminates the need to run an electrical power cable to a separate transmitter or receiver on the opposite side.

How a Reflective Photocell Works

The sensor continuously directs a light beam toward the supplied reflector. Under normal conditions, the reflector returns the beam to the photocell.

When a vehicle, person or other object interrupts the beam between the sensor and reflector, the photocell changes the state of its relay output. A compatible gate or barrier control system can use this signal as part of its safety or control logic.

12–240V AC/DC Wide Voltage Input

The SOMMER reflective photocell accepts a wide power supply range of 12–240V AC/DC. This provides considerable installation flexibility compared with photocells restricted to only 12V or 24V operation.
