Nortech PD132 Enhanced Vehicle Loop Detector is a professional 230V AC single-channel inductive vehicle detector designed for reliable vehicle presence detection in parking barriers, automatic gates, motorised doors and vehicle access control systems.
The PD132 detects a vehicle through an inductive loop installed beneath the road surface. When a vehicle enters the loop detection area, the detector identifies the change in loop inductance and provides an output to the connected barrier, gate controller or access control system.
Nortech PD132 Vehicle Loop Detector UAE
The Nortech PD132 loop detector is suitable for vehicle detection applications where reliable presence sensing is required. It can be used to help control automatic parking barriers and gates, trigger vehicle-related functions and maintain vehicle presence information while a vehicle remains over the detection loop.
The PD132 belongs to Nortech's 3-Series single-channel vehicle detector range and combines adjustable sensitivity, frequency selection, permanent-presence operation and Automatic Sensitivity Boost in a compact plug-in detector.

Automatic Sensitivity Boost (ASB)
The PD132 includes Automatic Sensitivity Boost. When enabled, this function increases sensitivity after a vehicle has been detected, helping maintain reliable detection of vehicles such as trucks, trailers and high-bed vehicles where the metal mass can be positioned farther away from the road loop.
Permanent Presence Vehicle Detection
The selectable permanent-presence function allows the presence relay to remain active while a vehicle continues to occupy the loop. This is particularly useful in parking barrier and automatic gate applications where premature closing while a vehicle remains in the detection area must be avoided.
Loop Frequency Selection
The Nortech PD132 provides four selectable frequency settings. Frequency adjustment can help reduce interference or crosstalk where multiple inductive loops are installed close to one another.
The actual operating frequency is affected by the geometry and inductance of the installed loop.
Loop Isolation Protection
The detector incorporates loop isolation transformer protection together with protection components on the loop input. This helps protect the detector electronics from electrical transients affecting the inductive loop circuit.
DU100 Diagnostic Support
The Nortech PD132 supports diagnostic functions when used with the compatible Nortech DU100 detector diagnostic unit. This can assist technicians when commissioning, testing and troubleshooting an inductive loop installation.
Nortech PD132 for Parking Barriers
The PD132 is particularly suitable as a vehicle loop detector for automatic parking barriers and boom gates. Depending on the barrier controller and wiring configuration, the detector relay can be integrated for vehicle presence, safety or vehicle-triggered control functions.
A correctly designed loop installation can help prevent a parking barrier from closing while a vehicle remains in the monitored area.
PD132 for Automatic Gates
The PD132 vehicle detector can also be integrated with compatible automatic sliding gate and other motorised entrance controllers that provide suitable relay inputs.
Possible applications include vehicle presence detection, exit-loop activation and gate safety functions. The exact operation depends on the control-board input used and its programming.
Vehicle Access Control Applications
Nortech PD132 vehicle detection can be incorporated into suitable access and traffic-control installations including:
- Automatic parking barriers
- Boom gates
- Automatic sliding gates
- Motorised doors
- Car parks
- Residential vehicle entrances
- Commercial buildings
- Warehouse entrances
- Factory entrances
- Vehicle access control systems
- Exit-loop applications
- Traffic-control installations
How Does the Nortech PD132 Work?
An insulated cable is installed in a loop beneath the road surface and connected to the PD132 detector. The detector continuously monitors the inductance of this loop.
When a metal vehicle enters the loop area, the electrical characteristics of the loop change. The PD132 detects this change and activates the appropriate relay output, allowing the connected gate, barrier or access-control system to respond according to its configuration.
Single-Channel Vehicle Loop Detector
The PD132 is a single-channel detector, meaning it monitors one inductive vehicle loop. It is suitable where one detection zone is required.
For applications requiring two independent loop channels in one detector, a dual-channel detector such as the Nortech PD232 may be considered according to the system design.
PD132 Installation & Loop Setup
Correct inductive-loop installation is essential for reliable vehicle detection. Loop dimensions, number of turns, feeder cable arrangement, road construction, nearby metalwork and spacing from adjacent loops can all affect detector performance.
The detector sensitivity and frequency should be configured after the loop has been installed and tested. For installations with multiple nearby loops, different frequency settings may be required to minimise interference.
Nortech PD132 vs Generic PD132 Loop Detectors
This product is the Nortech PD132 from Nortech's 3-Series vehicle detector range. It should not be confused with generic products that may also use the PD-132 model designation but have different specifications, dimensions, frequencies or operating characteristics.
When replacing an existing Nortech detector, check the manufacturer name, exact model number, supply voltage and connector configuration before ordering.
How to Choose the Correct Loop Detector
Before purchasing a vehicle loop detector, check:
- Required number of detection channels
- Power supply voltage
- Gate or parking barrier controller inputs
- Required presence or pulse operation
- Existing loop condition and inductance
- Required vehicle detection sensitivity
- Installation environment
For an existing installation, send us photos of the detector, controller and wiring before ordering if you are unsure which model is required.
